Design influences our thinking and how we feel. People always have opinion about design. Some of you may have opinion about red color, some like bright rooms, some like dark and quiet interior. Entire branding of Apple is built on simple assumption that people want to interact with nice well design devices. Why not invest in interior design? It will align your feelings, make you either relaxed or organized. It doesn't need to be expensive. I promote investing in interior decor with art. There are two things you need to remember: 1) color your walls having plan about wall decorations you want to hang later. 2) don’t buy cheap stuff. Simple as that. Here is an example of decor with 2 sets of prints on glass. One concrete wall is not painted at all and another has a layer of primer. Prints on glass, especially tempered glass are ultimately indestructible....
What will happen if you take modern materials and latest print technology and combine them in decor project (or prototype in this case)? I asked myself this question looking at photo of yellow couch and plastic reflective shelves. Here is what I come up with. Modern technology allows printing on any flat surface. It can be wooden board, aluminum plate, cardboard (why would I print on it?..) and glass. I already have experience with prints on aluminum and my customers are familiar with their scratch and finger prints resistance. Colors look great. They are thin and light. But what if I don’t need thin surface? I want something different… How about glass? I kept thinking about glass whole weekend and did research about printing on glass. No problem. Can be done! I can print on glass and mount it on foam core or painted wooden box depending on distance from...
The simple answer is YES. And here is why. As an example I chose this large yellow room with brown accent wall and light ceiling and reflective floor. I can assume that the walls pained with BM Lemon Shine 2020-20. Further from the windows the walls don’t look that bright and are more brown. Soft furniture can be navy or red. Even dark green will work. It depends how you feel about matching colors and textures. Illuminated aluminum prints can have its own color of light and can be deemed to the your liking. It means that in the dark area of the room illumination plays a role of additional lighting. You can’t read a magazine but you can linger with iPad for sure :) Deep saturated color of the walls allow bright abstract aluminum prints and dark paintings. This room with prints feels quiet and warm when it’s bright...
Here is a typical situation my customers deal after buying new house or moving into new apartment: living space is renovated and looked great when they visited it before purchase but now entire space is empty. And in many cases walls are painted in dark brown or green color. Dark paint makes large spaces look smaller and more intimate. But… walls are empty and interior looks simply gloomy. The solution is to bring in bright details and décor elements. Some plants may help too (think if they can survive in low light condition though). Here an example of large wall art as a décor for modern style living room with large window from floor to the ceiling (most condos in downtown Toronto have large windows nowadays). I chose this red and yellow piece as it plays well with bright yellow sofa set and compliments texture and color of the brown...
It's being raining for 4 days in a row. And it's cold too. So I dream about summer and pull out some shots I made not that long time ago.
I made this photo near Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. It was one of those rare autumn warm days. The sun was already low but still very bright and old trees were glowing with fall colors. Red and orange and burgundy and brown and all kind or shades of still green.
Looking back I wanted to feel that peace and timeless once again. I dialed colors down and fixed some noise. Here we go!
I already miss short Canadian summer ;)
